What a restoration at the Ferriera del Bonano!
The ancient workshop of generations of blacksmiths is the beating heart of a stunningly beautiful complex, nestled in a natural setting of pristine purity. This oasis of relaxation is located at Via La Ferriera 69, 52016 Castel Focognano (Arezzo), Italy.
The lovely farmhouse that sits above the workshop has been restored without altering its rustic soul and has now become a charming retreat, offering two independent apartments for those who want to immerse themselves in the spirit of these ancestral places.
A haven where one can spend rejuvenating days in serenity and silence, embraced by the greenery of the woods, with only the sounds of nature and the flowing waters of the Bonano stream — which still powers the water wheel, hammers, and gears of the ancient forge we have brought back to life.
Surrounded by broom shrubs, aromatic plants, and an olive grove, a secluded heated pool with a sunbathing lawn awaits. All around, a dense forest of chestnut and centuries-old trees, trails for hiking, and the stream — perfect for swimming in the summer.

An ancient and welcoming home, beautifully restored — a buen retiro immersed in the sounds of nature, surrounded by woods, olive groves, and meadows. It offers two independent apartments, each with its own privacy.
Outside, there are well-equipped areas with barbecues where guests can enjoy lunch and dinner, and a swimming pool with a sunbathing lawn, shared by both apartments.
Everything becomes magical at the Ferriera — even Smart Working takes on new colors in this timeless place.
At night, the subtle sounds of the forest and the murmuring stream accompany dreams only nature in this place can inspire.
The restoration
The ancientBLACSKSMITH'S workshop
We lovingly restored the old hammer, lathe, forges, and the water wheels that channel the stream’s flow to power the machinery — tools that, since the 1500s, allowed blacksmiths to forge the iron implements used by the farmers of these valleys.
A fragment of ancient industry, once left behind, has been brought back to life through water — the same water that now generates green energy in the small hydroelectric plant, built and integrated into this splendid and unspoiled setting.
