Podere Casanova Wine Art Shop Opens in the Heart of Montepulciano

A welcoming and informal meeting place dedicated to wine and art

Not quite a wine bar, nor a traditional art gallery, but a warm and inviting space where wine and art come together—the Podere Casanova Wine Art Shop has officially opened in the heart of Montepulciano’s historic center. This charming venue serves as a wine shop and tasting room for the estate’s wines, as well as a showcase for the experiences offered at Podere Casanova, whose winery, nestled among the vineyards, is just a 10-minute drive away at the gateway to Valdichiana. It is the perfect stop for a delightful break, offering excellent wines paired with local delicacies, while also functioning as an art gallery featuring works by contemporary painters and sculptors.

The space was created within the entrance hall of a Renaissance house in Montepulciano’s main street, Via di Gracciano del Corso. During the renovation, nothing was added—rather, the original structure was enhanced and preserved. The long, narrow space, which extends from the street deep into the rocky foundation of Montepulciano, was carefully restored to reveal and clean the original bricks and barrel vault ceilings. The innermost section, carved out of tuff stone, was once used for food storage due to the stone’s natural ability to regulate temperature. At the back of the shop, a small arched passage leads step by step into a hidden chamber, entirely carved from tuff, making it an ideal aging cellar for Podere Casanova’s finest wines.

During the restoration, owners Susanna and Isodoro Rebatto (Venetian entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector) wanted to bring the atmosphere and signature style of Podere Casanova to the heart of Montepulciano. They incorporated materials, colors, and graphic elements that reflect the winery and Wine Room at Tre Berte, which overlooks the vineyards. The large counter, tall tasting tables, and display structures for paintings and sculptures were all handcrafted in black iron by local artisans.

A Relaxing Wine & Art Experience

With soft background music, guests at the Podere Casanova Wine Art Shop can relax and taste all nine wines from the winery’s collection while admiring the featured artworks—this spring and summer, the shop is showcasing the paintings of Venetian artist Eros Rizzo. Visitors can stop for a gourmet break with local charcuterie and cheese platters, enjoy a glass of wine with an aperitivo or Happy Hour, or participate in guided thematic tastings, including vertical tastings of multiple vintages.

The flagship wine of the shop is the prestigious Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a historic wine documented as far back as 789 AD, honored by Popes in the 1300s, and the first in Italy to receive DOCG status. It is also available in the Nobile Settecento single-varietal selection and the Nobile Riserva, as well as in large-format bottles such as Magnum and Golia. Alongside these, visitors will find Rosso di Montepulciano, the Super Tuscan blends Irripetibile and Leggenda, the aromatic Euforia white wine, and the elegant sparkling wines Bulles Brut and Caterina Rosé. Each wine is displayed with its artistic label and customizable luxury gift packaging.

A visit to the Podere Casanova Wine Art Shop is a must for wine lovers and art enthusiasts alike, offering a truly immersive experience in the culture, history, and flavors of Montepulciano.
